Join us at the Dane County Fair on July 20th at 3pm for an AgrAbility Demonstration and to learn from an AgrAbility client, Keith Posselt.

Keith Posselt owns and operates a beef and crop farm near Hortonville, WI. Keith was injured in the late 1990’s when he fell 35’ feet from a silo while changing a silo door on his farm. As a result of the fall, Keith sustained a spinal cord injury which paralyzed him below the waist.

While the injury was devasting at the time, it did not break his resolve and desire to keep farming. Keith was determined to adapt to the situation and implement changes on the farm so he could continue to do what he loved.

A recent modification was made to Keith’s Case Skid Steer which will be exhibited at the Dane County Fair. The skid steer has been retrofitted to incorporate a lift that provides a way for Keith to access the operator’s station within his limitations. The lift design features a power-lock out system for the boom and then has a seat that protrudes from the operator’s station and then lowers so that Keith can transfer onto the seat from his manual wheelchair. The movements are controlled by a wireless remote. The skid steer is a primary machine on Keith’s farm and the modifications made to the machine allow him to feed and care for cattle and raise crops independently.

AgrAbility of Wisconsin, a partnership between UW Extension Services and Easter Seals Wisconsin, has been valuable in implementing modifications for Keith to be able to farm. Since 1991, AgrAbility has provided services to over 3,000 farmers with disabilities in Wisconsin. For more information, please contact 608-262-9336.
